Kazan’ is a very old city in accordance with the latest archaeological research. The city was presumably found in 1005. Volga Bulgars are the founders. Located in the centre of European Russia, it ia a large port at the confluence of the Volga and Kazanka rivers.

The city is the site of an old state university (1804), where Leo Tolstoy, V.I. Ulianov (Lenin) and Nickolas Lobatchevsky studied in due time.
This day Kazan’ is the first rate industrial, commercial and cultural centre. Manufactures include mainly aircraft, compressor machinery, refined petroleum, chemicals and textile.
